Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) involves breathing pure oxygen through a mask or mouthpiece, under an increased level of pressure.
Under pressure, the body is able to absorb more oxygen and the whole body is saturated – both tissue and blood. It is believed that the oxygen disperses any fat globules in the blood, thus reducing the risk of damage to the nerves and myelin sheaths.
How it works
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is not a cure for MS or any other chronic condition, but it can promote healing and help limit damage to the nervous system. Many people find it helps relieve symptoms like fatigue, blurred vision and bladder problems.
For the most benefit from hyperbaric oxygen therapy, it is best to saturate the body with oxygen by having as many sessions as you can during the first four weeks. We do understand, though, that you may not have the time to come every day, so we advise that you just try to do as much as you can initially. Afterwards, “top up” sessions once a week are usually advised.
Most people do find some relief of symptoms, which ultimately leads to a better quality of life.
