Reiki

Reiki is the name given to a system of natural healing that evolved in Japan. It was brought to the West following the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui, a teacher of Christian theology who rediscovered Reiki in the mid 1800s. It is used all over the world and remains extremely popular.

Reiki is a holistic therapy used to improve health by balancing the body’s energy system. It helps to clear blockages in the person’s energy field, allowing the body to then heal itself. In this case, “holistic therapy” just means that the whole person is treated as opposed to specific symptoms.

Reiki treatment from a practitioner is very simple and non intrusive. The fully clothed patient lies relaxed on a couch or sits in a chair, as the practitioner gently places their hands in a sequence of positions on the patient. Most patients feel a warm sensation and it’s surprisingly common to actually fall asleep! A full treatment usually takes about 30 minutes.

You do not have to be ill to experience Reiki. Some members of the MK MS Therapy Centre have enjoyed the therapy to boost their energy or simply to recharge their batteries. If you’re feeling tense, depressed, tired or in pain, Reiki can be helpful.

Healing can take place at different levels: physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. Acute injuries can be helped to heal very quickly but more chronic illness take longer. Several of our therapists offer Reiki, so please ask if you would to have a treatment.
